As a bunch of my friends are having babies right around now (September babies for the win!), I’ve been thinking a lot about what my favorite gear is and how hard can be to pinpoint perfect items. There is an overwhelming amount of baby gear out there. I can’t even count how many Amazon reviews I read through when I was pregnant.
So today, I’m talking about diaper bags because although it sounds simple, it was actually one of the items that was hardest for me to narrow down. I went through probably 5 bags before finally finding one that I was really in love with. Meet Lily Jade- my ultimate bag. To be honest, it is so perfect and I am only sad that I didn’t have it from the very beginning with my first child.
I’m pretty sure every mom has set criteria for what they want in their ideal bag. For me, I want my ideal bag to:
- Look like a purse- I didn’t want it to scream ‘DIAPERS LIVE HERE’. I still wanted to look somewhat stylish and not have to worry about constantly switching things if I was going out without kids.
- Be able to fit enough gear for 2 kids (in my case a toddler and an infant).
- Be easy to clean.
- Have lots of pockets!
- Be able to worn as a purse and a backpack (I didn’t want a backpack type bag at first, but this feature became crucial once I had a running toddler).
Lily Jade meets every.single.one. of those points and then some. I have two bags from Lily Jade and they are both out of this world. I purchased the Madeline for myself last October and then the company provided me with the Meggan to test out and compare. I’m happy to have one in brown and black so it goes with everything, but I have to say that the Meggan has stolen my heart and I have used it daily for the last two months. However, I did use the Madeline daily prior to making the switch.
All of their bags are made of high quality leather. Even after daily abuse, both of my bags still look brand new. Perhaps one of the coolest features is that all of the bags come with a washable “Baby Bag” which is a removable organizer that comes complete with a changing pad. This organizer has changed my world- not even joking. Also, it holds a surprising amount! I can take it out, pack it, shove it in my bag, and go about my day. I can drop the kids off with grandma, take out the organizer to leave with them, and then go about my business using the bag as a regular purse. Not having to switch things out between bags has been a dream.
The bag itself is incredibly durable. I often alternate between using it as a diaper bag and using it for business/work during the day where it holds my laptop, agenda, a couple of notebooks, my charger, and my Nikon with ease.
I chose both of these bags because of their ability to be worn over the shoulder, crossbody, and as a backpack. As I mentioned earlier, I did not fully appreciate the importance of the backpack feature when I had my first child. But when he started running away from me as a mischievous toddler, it became abundantly clear why this option would be nice. Add in the second baby and, well, the backpack feature is a must. The Lily Jade bags are sturdy and everything feels even. I have been known to wear my bag and carry a kid on each hip no problem. And the zipper across the top keeps everything in place even when it ends up upside down in the stroller.
There you have it. My favorite bag in a nutshell: stylish, lots of storage, easy to organize, and with a hands-free option. Alas, the hunt for the perfect diaper bag has finally come to an end. *Heart eye emojis*
