In honor of getting those beach bodies ready, here’s a fitness review. I’ve tried all sorts of new fitness classes over the last couple of years. I’m a serial newbie. I guess I just like throwing myself into new things and seeing if I find a new love. Crossfit, Pure Barre, running- they all have a special place in my heart. But, I have to say that I think I have actually found a new love. I’ve been going since March after having my baby and I really think this studio has made all the difference in bouncing back to my pre-baby weight so quickly.
The Ride Cycle Studio off the 15-501 in Durham is my happy place. They’re a newer studio that does a blend of yoga, barre, and spin classes. What I love even more are their blended classes that are ½ spin and ½ barre or a ‘fusion’ of yoga with weights and some barre moves. It’s the perfect blend for me.
I’ll just highlight on some points that I love.
Instructors: They are incredible. I have some major lady crushes happening (in the least creepy way, I promise!) Their classes are just so varied and well thought out. I always feel like I’ve gotten a full workout and that every minute is well utilized. I haven’t had classes with everyone yet, but I can say that Carolyn, Dawn, Elise, and Maggie are ridiculously motivating and have gotten me hooked.
Environment: Definitely one of the nicest studios in the area. I love that they have the room set up for you when you come in with the mats, weights, and balls making it a nice equal working space. They also offer you towels for your workout and then bring around cold towels with essential oils on them at the end. Luxury! I also like the diversity of the people that take the classes. I’ve taken classes with people aged 20-60, a few men here and there, and all colors and sizes. It makes me feel like I can focus on my own practice and not worry about being the fittest/skinniest/most stylish.
Cool Extras: They do fun classes to mix up their regular programming. For instance, they have themed classes where all the music is by a specific artist or they have Friday classes that they follow up with a wine or spirit. Also, they have a DJ turntable in the spin room which means those classes are always paired with extra cool music and, occasionally, an actual live DJ. I also like that they usually do spin in the dark room with neon lighting (to go along with the DJ theme) because I can make ugly workout-borderline-dying faces with some privacy.
Price: The classes are cheaper than a lot of the studios in the area and I feel like I get a better value with the variety and the options. Also, they have multiple package options and run deals every so often- so that helps as well. And no, I didn’t receive any free classes for this review. I’ve been paying for packages on my own so my opinion on price isn’t influenced in any way.
