Triangle Giveaways: Feel the love with Aloft

Love is in the air. At least that’s the modern theme of Valentine’s Day. There’s all sorts of ways to celebrate those lovey dovey feelings whether it’s chocolates, flowers, or jewelry?

My favorite? A romantic night away.

aloft room

This week’s giveaway is offering you just that. The lovely people of the new Aloft Hotel in Downtown Durham (right next to the Durham Performing Arts Center) are giving away a night at their new hotel.

I haven’t stayed there yet myself, but I did walk through and it looks AMAZING. Every so often, my husband and I are able to take a night away from the kiddo at home where we stay somewhere in the triangle and go out for a show, drinks, dinner, (whatever!) and stay overnight in a hotel. Just to recharge, refresh, and reconnect as a couple, you know? For our next one, this is definitely where we will be staying.

So, what makes this particular hotel so appealing? One, the location can’t be beat. Right in the center of downtown Durham, so it’s close to all the attractions such as the ballpark and it is next door to the DPAC. The rooms are incredibly swanky and eco friendly with local art over the beds, great views of downtown, and complimentary goodies in the room including coffee, water, and magazines. For food/drinks, they have the WXYZ lounge available with local breweries on tap. The area to get food (Refuel) is pretty unique in that you can get hot breakfasts with waffles, breakfast burritos, in addition to your traditional continental options, but you can buy drinks and convenience sweets and snacks as well. The set up is really cool AND I was amazed to learn that you can stop in there anytime- meaning you don’t have to just be a hotel guest. What a great option when catching a DPAC show!

The last cool feature I want to point out is they have a heated splash pool on the third floor, which looks out to the city. With the décor, it had a very Mad Men vibe and I wanted to try it out. Maybe next time.

On to the giveaway. The winner will receive one night’s room and tax at the aloft™ Durham Downtown in a traditional room with a King size bed. This will also include a parking pass and a voucher to use at the WXYZ lounge.

Side note: This will be a gift certificate and CANNOT be redeemed online. You will have to call a number to redeem it and there are certain high profile weeks that are blacked out (ex: graduation week). Once the certificate is redeemed and the reservation is made in advance, the certificate must be presented at check in. The details will be explained in further detail to the winner.

But more importantly- how do I win?! To enter- leave us a comment at the bottom of this page telling us your favorite Valentines Day tradition. It’s that easy. One entry per email address. It may take a little bit for your comment to show because we approve each comment individually. Also, we won’t use your email address for anything other that to contact you if you win- promise. We hate spam too.

This giveaway will run until Friday, February 14th at 8pm. We will announce the winner Monday morning on the 15th.

My favorite Valentine’s tradition is the little gift my dad would give me as a little girl. I will never forget how special his small gesture of kindness made me feel!

Instead of going out, my husband and I really enjoy finding a new recipe and trying it out in our own kitchen! We put on some Pandora love songs and drink champagne! It’s always a wonderful night!

My favorite Valentines Day tradition is simple: Remind each other of all the mushy, gushy, lovey dovey feelings that you don’t say all the time. We all say “i love you” and give compliments from time to time, but I think V Day (though cheesy at times) is a chance for us to go above and beyond and really make the other person in our lives feel special and not overlooked. Last year I filled out a small booklet that quizzed me on different things I found special about my husband such as “What I most admire about him”.

My favorite Valentine’s Day tradition is my fiancé and I cooking dinner together, getting all dressed up in our favorite fancy clothes, and then having dinner at home with one another and afterwards getting into our comfy clothes and eating popcorn while watching a movie (that I pick out of course ?).

My favorite Valentine’s Day tradition was to make a scavenger hunt for my husband and hide fun, romantic clues all over the house. Now that we have two children we both do a fun, kid-friendly scavenger hunt for them. They love this tradition and it still holds special meaning for my husband and I.

My favorite Valentine’s Day tradition just started last year since we’ve never been able to go out in years past due to my husband working in the restaurant industry. Going to the planetarium in chapel hill.

My husband and I love having a special date night that is extra long so we can talk over dinner, and then we love celebrating with our 5 children by giving them gifts and letting them know how much we love them, and then throwing a small valentines day party for our close family friends!

My favorite thing about valentines with my husband is that we don’t celebrate on Valentine’s Day! Haha we prefer to avoid the crowds and lines of reservations so we always make a point to go out either the week before or after. This way we spend the actual day stress free & relaxed. Makes everything so enjoyable!

I’m still a fan of old-school valentine’s that you gave to your friends in elementary school. You can’t beat a fuzzy bear holding a heart that says, “Be mine!”

On Valentine’s Day, I love doing things with friends and family in addition to a significant other (when I have one). This year, I will probably go to church and then the UNC basketball game with a friend. While it is important to celebrate romantic love, familial love and God’s love are equally as important to have in life.

Ever since we had kids (oldest is 4), it’s been rare we’ve that we’ve had a date night on the actual day. Nevertheless, my husband always brings me flowers, and one of us will cook for the other (plus our kids). With two little girls, it’s fun to see them get excited and I want them to feel loved, too.
